I hear they are getting some good snow up north in my hometown of Petoskey, Michigan. Here’s a postcard my mom sent me of Petoskey in 1984.

Mich Pols Challenge Evolution
June 9th, 2008 · No Comments
Some Michigan lawmakers are challenging the “theory” of evolution. They have introduced a bill that would require teachers and students to explore the “strengths and weakness” of evolutionary theory.
In this article from Jack Lessenberry (toledoblade.com), he exposes Michigan State Sen. Bill Hardiman (R., Grand Rapids) and State Rep. John Moolenaar (R., Midland) for introducing this “academic freedom” legislation. Upon closer inspection, this legislation follows the Discovery Institute template for “exploring the controversy” – which means, introducing creationism in the classroom. The Michigan Senate bill, in addition, codifies the need to present alternatives to well-founded scientific evidence, by allowing the introduction of alternative theories to global warming. It is pretty darn clear that when a statesman does this, they have an agenda. In this case it is to promote their “beliefs” in the classroom, and mask them as science, because on their own merits they would quickly be dismissed.
