Santa Fe Photography

November 29th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve been busy uploading tons of old photos, and I’ve got miles of photo albums to go before I’m satisfied. This is a long, painful process, but worthwhile! I enjoy seeing people visit my photos, but I also like having things well-organized. I realize that on both my Flickr and my blog, everything before this [...]

A Quantum of Nyquil

November 29th, 2008 · No Comments

If I’m living in The Matrix, then someone wrote my program poorly. It seems I’m always bothered by allergies. Today, I think things have gotten worse and I’ve succumbed to my co-worker’s cold. The sniffling and sneezing is moderate and unrelenting. I was able to finish posting my Santa Fe photos to Flickr (I now [...]

Fixed!

November 24th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve got the ol’ blog running smoothly again. I thought I fixed all the permissions issues earlier, while watching a James Brolin movie on the SciFi Channel, but alas, I missed a bunch of things in the wp-includes folder. Hyperconnectivity

May 19th, 2008 · No Comments

We live in a connected society. A recent InfoWorld article claims that about 16 percent of users in a recent study are “Hyperconnected” – meaning they use at least seven devices and nine applications on a regular basis. They are part of the “culture of connectivity” that feels the need to always be “connected” through their technology to their work and their friends, 24×7.

In a traditional sense, we have neighbors and co-workers that we interact with on a routine basis. In a larger sense, the telecommunications revolution has given us immediate access to multitudes of people we do not personally know. We can either be one more anonymous person on a soapbox, proselytizing to the masses, or we can join millions of other Internet souls, listening to, reading and watching bits of information that we cherry pick to fit our tastes. The implications that occur to me are (1) we must be concerned about validity of information, (2) people may not be who they say they are, (3) the signal to noise ratio is low (lots of noise), (4) we tend to choose sources (reliable or not) that reinforce our biases and we need to recognize that.
