I am officially a time-shifter. I have gone to Best Buy three times in the past week, and each trip was well worth it.

My first trip, last week was to purchase an iPod Shuffle. Now, as I shuffle around at work, worrying about my damn PC laptop that doesn’t work half the time, I can listen to a mellow playlist and maintain my sanity.

My second trip, Wednesday, was upon the advice of a friend who works part-time at Best Buy. He told me about their two-for-one special on certain TV shows. Stargate seasons on DVD normally cost $50. I was able to buy Season 7 for $39.95 and get Season 8 for free. Plus, I picked up “The Constant Gardener” and “Transporter 2″ which I missed in the theater and wanted to see.

Today, I decided to take up DirecTV on a mail-in special. I called a tech last night, just to make certain the rebate would apply. Indeed it does! I now have a DirecTV Plus unit (with TiVo and DVR) and I can record my favorite movies digitally. I am not sure how to in turn burn these to DVD, if I even want to, but I can time-shift digitally and not with my old VCR. That’s nifty, if I say so myself. And, free! I am recording Stargate, Atlantis and Monk tonight while Jarrett and his friends play games on the TV, and I’ll watch them in the morning (or, whenever the heck I feel like it!) I have to thank friends for convincing me that all three of these purchases were worthwhile!

I’ll have to wait for HDTV though. Once I get one TV running in hi-def, the others will all appear mediocre and I’ll rant and rave about what I can’t get in HDTV like RP does!!

Once you’ve seen HDTV it becomes almost impossible to watch that primitive thing called TV.

I think I’ll look in to getting a HD DVR/Tivo thing this week. I really have to see if it will become worthless in 2 months when they start using MPEG-4 compression rather than the MPEG-2 that they currently use (I think that is the situation).
